Carl Payne is a founding Partner of Donovan Payne Architects established in 1997. On graduating from his Bachelor of Architecture at Curtin University in 1974, Carl travelled to the U.K. where he practiced for some time prior to his return to Australia having developed a special interest in using architecture to facilitate social inclusiveness by design. Working in both WA and NSW, Carl gained extensive experience in a wide variety of architectural fields, including commercial, private, public and planning.
With over 46 years of industry experience, Carl’s expertise and interests in social inclusion and community development has been a perfect fit in the unique partnership with Kim Donovan. In his work with Donovan Payne Architects, Carl has delivered an extensive portfolio of works in the fields of community and commercial architecture where he has promoted his ethos of social inclusion in the delivery of numerous and successful, community sports, leisure and aquatic facilities across Australia and overseas.
When Carl manages to break from practice, he takes great interest in music, song writing, heritage preservation and football.

Carl Payne is a founding member; and Managing Director of Donovan Payne Architects established in 1997. Since graduating from his Bachelor of Architectural Science at Curtin University in 1974, Carl initially took to the U.K. where he practiced overseas and returned by new standards with a formed special interest to architecture, and its facilitation of social inclusiveness by design. Following extensive local practice, and exercising in a large variety of architectural fields including commercial, private, public and planning; Carl took to the establishment of Donovan Payne - in pursue of practice, and the unique partnership with Kim Donovan.
Under the establishment of Donovan Payne Architects, Carl presents the essential knowledge and expertise from over 46 years of industry experience; with highly exercised abilities in servicing detailed specifications, contract administration, project management and design support to a lead level. Carl has established an extensive portfolio in addressing specilised works throughout the commercial and public sectors; where he has become highly reputable and recognized in the field of architecture, and its facilitation of social inclusiveness by design.
